My father died, when I was really young, so we could afford a education as doctor(which was my dream job at that time). But I was able to study physics and got a job as a lab assistant in Marie Curie's laboratory. On my first day in the lab I met Marie Curie, but I didn't know her and so I thought she was the lab's secretary. After this incident, I thought would have to leave after three months, but instead Marie Curie incouraged and help me.

  • I also worked with the National Center for Scientific Research from 1940 to 1949
  • I became a professor of nuclear physics at the University of Strassbourg in 1949.
  • I later became director of Strassbourg's Nuclear Research Center and hold that post for the rest of my life.
